Cross-Eyed Cross-Stitch
August 31, 2008
My goal today was to do very little. I successfully sat here tore out a huge section on my cross stitch project, and restitched it and got a large amount more done. I have been working on it for just over 12 hours. Amazingly enough, I only worked with 6 colors. Most of this project was on an animal’s leg.
I am almost thankful that my husband is such a nerd that he can sit and play Mass Effect for the Xbox 360 for even longer than I cross stitched (he had started before I even woke up).
I keep forgetting Andrew has tomorrow off, I was starting to plan my day tomorrow around not having him home, but then I realized I would be able to do another day of cross stitching. I know it sounds lazy, but there is a lot of focus that goes into cross stitching, you have to perfect a counting system, and a thread system, a marking system for checking off the stitches that you have completed. I was able to watch Gone With the Wind, Grease, and I’ve been able to listen to a lot of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
Well, I am going to take a break from doing anything that requires focusing, and maybe come back to my cross stitch in a little while to finish up the section I am on.
I find it highly amusing that someone wants to read my private posts so bad that they would try to register 10 times because they are too stupid to know that I have to approve each new registered reader before they are granted access to my private posts. UH DUH!
And just so you know, in case you do try it again, you have to register with a valid email address so that you can get your temporary password. UH DUH x2!
TheWB.com
August 30, 2008
I am an avid Gilmore Girls fan, and I own Seasons 1-5, I am waiting until after the holidays this year to buy the last two seasons, but I am disappointed with the new launch of TheWB.com. I was hoping for the chance to watch Seasons 6&7 on my PC, and cannot figure out the heck to get it to work. I have found the first 4 episodes of Season 1 just fine, but when I go to Video Search for Season 6 Episode 1, all I am able to do is search for a ‘keyword’ and find random clips with that word in the dialog. No way to watch the full episode.
I then saw someone commented that HULU.com had more selection of a certain show, so I went there and they unfortunately do not have Gilmore Girls at all. BUST! I know that I could buy the seasons for cheap and just watch them then as often as I want, but I felt more compelled to inform you that I was not pleased with TheWB.com.
I think I’m in Love…

With Rachael Ray’s recipe for “Thai It, You’ll Like it” Spicy Thai Shrimp with Coconut Rice.
I would make it less spicy for Andrew of course, but YUMMY!
Ingredients
- 1 cup sweetened, shredded coconut
- 2 1/2 cups chicken stock or broth
- 1 cup long grain white rice
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons canola oil
- 2 pounds jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 red bell pepper, seeded and thinly sliced
- 1 fresh red chili, seeded and thinly sliced or 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons fish sauce or 2 to 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 cups (a couple of handfuls) basil, torn
- Zest and juice of 1 lime
Yields: 4 servings
Preparation
Toast coconut in a saucepan over medium heat until it turns golden brown. Reserve 1/2 cup for garnish.
To the remaining coconut in the saucepan, add the chicken stock, rice and salt, and bring it to a boil. Once at a boil, reduce the heat to a simmer, place a lid on top and cook for 15 minutes. Let the mixture stand for five minutes off the heat then fluff with a fork.
While the rice is cooking, preheat a large, nonstick skillet over high heat with the canola oil. When the pan is hot, add the shrimp, red bell peppers, chili (or red pepper flakes) and garlic, stirring frequently for about 3-4 minutes.
Add the fish sauce (or soy sauce), basil and toss to combine. Serve the shrimp and some of the sauce over the coconut rice and squeeze some lime juice over everything. Garnish with the reserved toasted coconut and the lime zest.
I like watching our Digital PBS channel called Create. It has cooking shows, sewing shows, scrapbooking shows, etc. I feel like a complete moron for sitting here watching a lady paint on TV on a Friday night, but my ‘plans’ fell through. I love watching people paint, they make it look so easy, and it makes me want to be creative too, but I am not good at anything creative. LOL
My mom and mother-in-law are super crafty, but I am not. I just need to spend more time doing crafty things, I am sure that with time, I will eventually get it right. I am currently working on a cross stitch that I have to tear part out of because I messed up a few days ago and haven’t torn it out yet to start that section over. I should do that. Maybe after I have a little ice cream, I will go find my seam ripper and fix my project so I can start doing it more during the evenings.
Peter Pan
August 26, 2008
I have joined a book club, though I am not sure if I will be able to attend any meetings if I get this new job, (they meet the 4th Friday of every month – and I’d be working). This month they’re reading Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie. The same person that Johnny Depp played in Finding Neverland. Excellent movie.
I have been really wanting to listen to the audio books for the final two Harry Potter novels, so I am torn. I know that the movies aren’t coming out for a ridiculous long time now, so I have a bit of time to dedicate to the book club.
I have just never been very motivated when it comes to reading. I read a few books in high school, but I could name them on one hand LOL.

Damnit – I can’t find my IPOD!!!!!
I love it – I seem to get relaxed by it, but damnit! I had to start the one I was doing over again because my counting was off, and I was too far into it to be able to trace back to where the counting issue started, so with the new one, I’ve been super duper careful with my counting, but apparently I am off again! BLARGH!!! I think before I go any further I am going to some how scan the pattern into the computer and see if I can’t get it printed out in color so that I can highlight on that instead of ruining the original pattern.
I would give up on the project, but that would just be too much like myself, so I am devoted to getting it going, and getting it going right. All I have really done is part of the ground (first attempt) and a horses head (second attempt) It won’t be very much for me to tear out the 2nd attempt one once I can figure out where my coutning went cabookie (yes, in my family cabookie is a real word).
I think my issue might be because I am anxious to find out about the job I interviewed for on Thursday. I miss working so badly, and having money coming in so that I can help pay for things, and not be contributing to any bills because my credit cards are still recovering from the wedding.
Anyways, since I am taking the evening off from the dreadful cross-stitching issue of counting, I am going to wrap up Grey’s Anatomy Season 2’s season finale where they heartbreakingly kill Denny.
But I will immediately put in Grey’s Anatomy Season 3 to help make the story happy again! Though I must admit that it is very sad to see Izzie lying on the bathroom floor for so long.
By The Way: I just took the “which charector are you most like” quiz online, and here are my results.
You’re Izzie
A true romantic, you believe that love makes anything possible, even when everyone tells you otherwise. You often base decisions on your heart, not your head but you wouldn’t have it any other way, even when life keeps handing you disappointments.
Anyways- the most recent season (4) releases on DVD and BluRay on 9/9/2008 – and the new season (5) starts on 9/25/2008. FYI!!!!!
